Deron V. Sharpe, MD

Pediatric Neurology

    Subspecialist Bio

    Dr. Deron Sharpe is a Pediatric Neurologist licensed by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners and certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

    Dr. Sharpe received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine, Columbia, Missouri and completed his Pediatric Residency Program at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Following his Pediatric Residency, Dr. Sharpe completed a three-year Child Neurology Residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center followed by a Neuromuscular Neurology Fellowship also at Vanderbilt.

    Upon completion of his Pediatric Neuromuscular Neurology Fellowship, Dr. Sharpe joined the Vanderbilt University Medical Center as a Clinical Instructor and Assistant Professor and devoted the next eight years in private practice treating pediatric patients at Pediatric Neuromuscular Clinic in Franklin, Tennessee.

    In January 2015, Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network welcomed Dr. Sharpe as a physician at Dothan Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic. Dr. Sharpe’s clinical interests include the management of tone modifying therapies for cerebral palsy and the diagnosis and management of neuromuscular disorders such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, myotonias, spinal cerebellar ataxias, and periodic paralyses.

 

David J. Lozano, MD

Pediatric Pulmonology

    Dr. David Lozano is a Pediatric Pulmonologist licensed by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners and certified by the Pediatric Pulmonary Medical Board of the American Board of Pediatrics. He is also certified by the Sleep Medicine Board of the American Board of Pediatrics.

    Dr. Lozano received his Doctor of Medicine degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas and completed his Pediatric Residency Program at the University of Florida, Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital. Following his Pediatric Residency, Dr. Lozano completed a three-year Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Children’s of Alabama.

    A year after the completion of his Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship, Dr. Lozano joined the UAB Division of Pulmonology Medicine at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham and practiced there for the next 13 years. He also served as the Medical Director of the Sleep Disorders Center at Children’s of Alabama for eight years.

    In January 2018, Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network welcomed Dr. Lozano as a physician at Dothan Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic. Dr. Lozano’s clinical interests include Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD), Pediatric Sleep Medicine, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy, Technology-Dependent patients/Pediatric Home Ventilation, and Asthma. Dr. Lozano’s clinical activity has an emphasis on Pediatric Sleep Disorders of all types. He sees pediatric sleep patients in the clinic setting and interprets pediatric sleep studies. Dr. Lozano is the Medical Director of Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network’s free-standing Pediatric Sleep Center.

 

Heather Choat, MD

Pediatric Endocrinology

    Dr. Heather Choat is a Pediatric Endocrinologist licensed by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners and certified by the Pediatric Endocrinology Medical Board of the American Board of Pediatrics.

    Dr. Choat received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University, Augusta, Georgia, and completed her Pediatric Residency Program at the University of South Carolina, Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. Following her Pediatric Residency, Dr. Choat completed a three-year Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama.

    In July 2019, Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network welcomed Dr. Choat as a physician at Dothan Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic. Dr. Choat’s clinical interests include type 1 diabetes mellitus, thyroid and parathyroid diseases, and disorders of growth and pubertal development.

 

Meredith Hitch, MD

Pediatric Gastroenterology

    Dr. Meredith Hitch is a Pediatric Gastroenterologist licensed by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners and certified by the Pediatric Gastroenterology Medical Board of the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Hitch received her Doctor of Medicine degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies and completed her Pediatric Residency Program at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Following her Pediatric Residency, Dr. Hitch completed a three-year Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

    Upon completion of her Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship, Dr. Hitch joined the UAB Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham. Most recently, Dr. Hitch served as a member of the Pediatric Gastroenterology Medical Staff at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

    In November 2019, Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network welcomed Dr. Hitch as a physician at Dothan Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic. Dr. Hitch’s clinical interests include: functional GI disorders, eosinophilic esophagitis, constipation, fatty liver, and obesity.

 

Jacob Edwards, MD, FAAP

Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine

    Dr. Jacob Edwards was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Troy University in 2001. Dr. Edwards earned a Master of Public Health degree, Concentration in Epidemiology, from George Washington University School of Public Health, Washington DC in 2005, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Morehouse School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia in 2009.

    In 2012, he completed a three-year Pediatric Residency program at Children's National Medical Center, Washington, DC. He has completed advanced studies in Adolescent Medicine. After practicing in Enterprise and Tuscaloosa, Dr. Edwards made his way back to Enterprise to join Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network in May 2017.

    He is a fellow of the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is also a member of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama and the Houston County Medical Society.

 

 

Lisa Hicks, CPNP

    Lisa Hicks, Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, was born in Fort Walton Beach and raised in Crestview, Florida. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing, Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, from the University of South Alabama, Mobile, Alabama. During her studies, Lisa completed rotations with Dothan Pediatric Clinic and Southeastern Pediatric Associates. Also, she worked as a registered nurse in the pediatrics department of Flowers Hospital. Lisa joined Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network in March, 2017.

    Lisa is licensed as a registered nurse by the Alabama Board of Nursing and certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board. She is authorized for Advanced Practice Nursing by the Alabama Board of Nursing and approved for Collaborative Practice with Kenneth C. Brown, MD.

    Lisa lives in Dothan with her husband, Josh, and her Goldendoodle, Radley. She enjoys spending time at the lake, baking, and volunteering with the youth and outreach at her church.

 

Khalisa Syeda, DO

Pediatric Cardiology

    Dr. Khalisa Syeda is a Pediatric Cardiologist licensed by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners and certified in general pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics.

    Dr. Syeda received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Ft. Worth, Texas, and completed her Pediatric Residency Program at the University of Illinois in Chicago, Illinois. Following her Pediatric Residency, Dr. Syeda completed a three-year Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at Texas Health Science Center.

    Upon completion of her Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship, in October 2019, Dr. Syeda joined the Pediatric Cardiology Division at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and established a permanent satellite Pediatric Cardiology practice at Dothan Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic. Dr. Syeda’s clinical interests include the care of children with pediatric and congenital heart disease, abnormal heart rhythms, and fetal cardiology.

 

David A. Rogers, MD

Pediatric General Surgery

    Dr. David A. Rogers is a professor in the Departments of Surgery, Medical Education and Pediatrics and the Senior Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development in the School of Medicine at UAB. He received his medical degree from the University of South Florida and completed his general surgery training at the Medical College of Georgia. He subsequently completed his pediatric general surgery training at the University of Tennessee and a pediatric surgery oncology fellowship at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He received a Master of Health Professions Education degree (MHPE) from the University of Illinois at Chicago and has also completed the Surgical Education Research Fellowship program sponsored by the Association for Surgical Education. Dr. Rogers has an ongoing educational research program focused on the role of education in improving surgeon conflict management in the operating room.

    Outside of his research and clinical activities, Dr. Rogers has served in a number of educational administrative roles and is currently the Course Chair of the American College of Surgeon’s Resident as Teachers and Leaders course. A recipient of numerous department and institutional teaching awards, Dr. Rogers is a 2012 recipient of an Association for Surgical Education Distinguished Educator Award.

    Dr. Rogers began coming to Dothan Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic in 2017. He sees patients once a month for Pre/Post Operative Care.
